Born in Brooklyn, NY, Hillary’s family moved to the historic artist colony of Woodstock when she was still a toddler.  Growing up in a creative town with weekends spent in New York City, Hillary developed a love of the arts, community and travel.

After receiving a Bachelor of Arts with a concentration in photography from Bennington College in the late 1990s, Hillary returned to New York City and exhibited her photographs in juried exhibitions around the city and upstate.

Pining for small-town life and the landscapes of the Hudson Valley, Hillary returned to her stomping grounds, where she expanded her knowledge of photography first at a niche stock photo agency and then apprenticing herself to an established wedding photographer, rapidly becoming one of the main shooters for the studio.

In 2006, Hillary opened her own photography studio to wedding, editorial, and portrait commissions.  Since then, her portraits have appeared in Oprah, Real Simple, Upstate House, Healthy Living and Chronogram magazines.  She has photographed authors’ book jackets, musicians’ CD covers, artists, activists, and families at all stages.  Her wedding images have been featured in Hudson Valley Magazine and Chronogram.  She is proud to be a “Best of Weddings” pick at The Knot, and a Bride’s Choice Awards recipient at Martha Stewart’s Wedding Wire.

Hillary specializes in photographing people – who they are, what they do, how they celebrate their lives.  She intuitively gathers inspiration from her subjects' style and individuality, working collaboratively with her subjects to create images that are unique to each shoot. Her work is marked by the beauty in everyday things: the moments that go unnoticed, the details often forgotten.  Using the camera as a tool for seeing the world, Hillary aims to focus the viewer’s attention on the warmth that happens naturally within it.
